Instructions for Authors

Please read these instructions carefully before attempting to submit your manuscript.

  • Creative works such as poems and short stories or any other work of fiction can follow a method that is open and free, but profanity in language and racism are highly discouraged. Articles with racist, condescending, and disrespectful tone or language will be rejected automatically.
  • Visual arts such as paintings, sketches, or drawings must have a corresponding 100-word blurb to explain what the art is about.
  • All creative works need to follow APA 7th style when citing sources in the blurb.
  • For research articles utilizing semiotics or sign systems framework, ensure that your submission has not been published in other journals, books, or knowledge-sharing platforms online or in print. If it comes to the editors’ attention that your article has been published elsewhere, your article will be deleted from our journal database immediately and you will be blacklisted in our journal. Academic integrity is highly advised.
  • Please use the APA 7th citation and referencing style in writing your article. For a quick guide, visit the APA organization site at https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/examples or read the 7th edition of the APA manual.
  • All tables and figures (images, sketches, drawings, visual arts) must also follow the APA 7th formatting guidelines. No coloured fonts or texts in article submissions except for photographs/images, flowcharts, infographics, or any other artwork illustrations. High-resolution photographs/images and infographics must be observed, i.e., 70-150 PPI (pixels per inch).
  • Manuscripts must use Aptos, font 12, and double spacing. The submitted manuscript must be in Word document format only (not PDF, RTF, or XPS).
  • Your article must explicitly state ethical procedures in the Methodology section. All article submissions should follow this protocol despite the study being highly qualitative and/or creative, poetic, unique, or nuanced.
  • Be explicit in explaining the ethics process established by your Institutional Review Board (IRB) or its equivalent. If this did not happen given your circumstances, explain in detail the unique process of your study in the Methodology section of your paper, e.g., a content analysis of available opinion articles on loneliness in the top three newspapers in the Philippines may not need to go through an IRB assessment.
  • For an article or review material written by a group of researchers, list down all names of authors in your manuscript submission with their unique ORCID identification. Do not miss any author to avoid late publication. Take note that changing and adding names in the online system can be cumbersome when a submission has been accepted for publication. We will not change the order of authors’ names for published articles.
  • Please carefully read the aims and scope of this journal before attempting to submit an article for review. If you are in doubt, please contact the editor-in-chief to seek clarity or directions. Do not hesitate to ask questions by sending an email to editor@simbolismo.org
